Collision Authority Supports Our Community

Education

children picture• Being in the auto body repair business sometime forces us to see the aftermath of accidents and the injuries that can be sustained. For that reason, Collision Authority contributed $30,000 in 2004 to run public service announcements asking motorists to buckle up when driving under the Click It or Ticket campaign.

• Like most technical business these days, there always seems to be a shortage of qualified repair technicians. Being a proactive company we approached the Community College of Southern Nevada and helped to create the auto body program by donating a facility at the Speedway to be used as a satellite campus. From 2005-2007, Collision Authority has donated over $250,000 to help CCSN operate this campus.

• Each springtime local area High Schools conduct career fairs to give their seniors exposure to the many options in the business community. Collision Authority, in partnership with CCSN, always sends representatives to these fairs to encourage young people to consider careers in auto body repair.

I-CAR is the industry standard for training in the collision repair business. All Collision Authority shops have achieved Gold Class Awards issued by I-CAR. Gold Class is a special status for shops that meet strict training requirements.

Chamber of Commerce

Collision Authority is an active member of the Las Vegas & Henderson chambers of commerce. We have a dedicated representative who attends all the functions. We have sponsored network breakfasts, lunches, and mixers. We currently serve on various committees in these chambers and work diligently to protect the interests of the business community.

Collision Authority has always participated in Chamber Career Days. Career Days are when local area high school students are paired off with professionals in fields that are of interest to the young person. We have always hosted young men and women interested in auto body careers.

During the 2005 Legislative Session we actually sent two students to Carson City to shadow one of our employees who was serving as a State Assemblyman. They spent the day with him and met all the leaders in the Legislature as well as all the members of the Executive branch including the Governor. Collision Authority paid all their expenses.

Government Affairs

Collision Authority believes that you either act or are acted upon. We have a proactive approach to government when it comes to protecting our interests. We contribute to key leaders in the legislature as well as build relationships with them.

In 2003 our company petitioned the Nevada Legislature to create a law that allowed the consumer to choose the repair facility of their choice. Assembly Bill 367 changed the way business was done in Nevada and gave the consumer the right to have their vehicle repaired at a facility of their choosing, slowing heavy-handed steering.

In 2005 we went back to the Legislature and lobbied for an $11 million appropriation to build an automotive technology center at CCSN. Both the Nevada Franchised Auto Dealers Association and the Nevada Collision Industry Association allied with us to build this center. Everyone told us we would never get this appropriation and in the last few days of the Session it was a done deal.

In 2006 Governor Guinn appointed Michael Spears, one of our partners, to the Automotive Affairs Advisory Board. The Board’s responsibility is to propose regulations pertaining to the automotive industry and oversee the compliant process.

The 2007 Legislative Session was our most aggressive effort yet, in which we were able to create an online labor rate survey system and establish a Class-A Collision Repair License Endorsement for 1st class collision facilities. We were also instrumental on the defensive against several bills that were harmful to our industry.

Collision Authority was the leader in forming the Nevada Collision Industry Association. Michael Spears was the founder and first President of the Association in 2003. This fledgling organization went from a small group of people to over 92 members statewide. Collision Authority has had two of its employee’s serve on the State Board and currently one serving as State Treasurer.
